Passes New Stimulus Bill- Postal Funding Included"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On May 15<sup>th<\/sup>, the House of Representatives passed the fifth COVID-19 response package. \u00a0The\u00a0<a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.house.gov\/billsthisweek\/20200511\/BILLS-116hr6800ih.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1815 page<\/a>\u00a0<em>Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act\u00a0<\/em>(H.R. 6800) provides some resources to lessen the impact of COVID-19 including direct stimulus payments to Americans, aid for state and local governments, and emergency appropriations for the Postal Service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a big, bold movement taking place across rural and urban American to make sure postal funding is included in the next stimulus,\u201d said APWU President Mark Dimondstein.\u00a0 \u201cPostal workers and our labor\/community allies have come together to protect this national treasure and ensure it can continue to serve the country in both good times and times of crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The postal provisions in the House legislation will need to be passed by the Senate before it goes to the White House to be signed into law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A snapshot of postal provisions in the House bill, include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An emergency $25 billion appropriation for lost revenue due to COVID-19\n<ul>\n<li>This emergency appropriation will ensure that USPS has the financial resources to continue serving the nation thru the end of the year and beyond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Ensures that USPS has access to the\u00a0$10 billion line of credit with no strings attached;<\/li>\n<li>Provides postal and other essential frontline workers the hazard pay they deserve.<\/li>\n<li>Protects the democratic process by ensuring\u00a0that\u00a0every\u00a0voter\u00a0can\u00a0access\u00a0no\u00ad-excuse\u00a0absentee\u00a0vote\u00ad-by\u00ad-mail in the upcoming election, and every federal election thereafter.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are encouraged to see that postal funding was included in this House legislation,\u201d said Legislative and Political Director Judy Beard.\u00a0 \u201cOur focus must now turn to the Senate where we will continue to educate Senators on the importance of the Postal Service and its\u2019 essential workers who are on the frontline of this crisis each and every day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senators need to keep hearing from our members about the role the Postal Service is playing during this crisis and its\u2019
