Concern for the future, unity, respect and support for the union\u2019s general bargaining goals were recurring themes. At deadline, more than 2,500 entries were received, with some members entering multiple suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>Around 1,300 All-Craft Conference (ACC) attendees got a chance to cast a ballot for their favorite pick of the five &#8220;finalist&#8221; slogans \u2013 determined by the National Executive Board. President Dimondstein is pleased to announce the winning slogan is \u201cFighting Today for a Better Tomorrow.\u201d It was submitted by Alfonso McFarlin, Jr., a member of the Houston Area Local Retiree Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>After learning he won the 2018 Contract Campaign slogan contest, McFarlin kept asking himself, \u201cIs this real?\u201d He explained that his slogan embodies the spirit of not only hard work and good service, but also ensuring better pay and benefits for generations of future postal workers, as well as a strong public Postal Service. \u201cI believe in fighting for what\u2019s right,\u201d McFarlin said. \u201cThat\u2019s what made me want to do this.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McFarlin started working at the post office in 1980 and immediately joined the APWU. He worked as a clerk for 29 years before retiring on Nov. 1, 2009. Since then, he has been a dues-paying member of his retiree chapter.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke about how all postal workers deserve good benefits for their work \u2013 and how belonging to a union makes it possible. \u201cEveryone should be protected,\u201d McFarlin said. \u201cWith the union, you do better and you work better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The APWU\u2019s Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Postal Service expires on Sept. 20, 2018. The slogan contest was created as part of preparations for the upcoming negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>McFarlin plans to take the prize option of a three-day trip to Washington, D.C. to coincide with Opening Day of contract negotiations. He has some winning advice of his own for today\u2019s postal workers, \u201cKeep fighting!
